Problem

  • After the redesign, suppliers would go back and forth between old and new versions.
  • It was time to sunset the old version.
New designs handed over by previous designer
Missing metrics

Management decided to remove the top 6 best-performed categories during the redesign, and they couldn't bring them back due to technical reasons.
Deprecated metrics: top 6 categories
Discovery

So why did the new design not quite work for everyone?
  • Recruited users through a survey I created with the AppCues app
  • I collected feedback via the Survey
  • I created a prototype that fixed issues mentioned in the Survey
  • Conducted UX Usability testing sessions
  • Got insights
Prototype for validation sessions
Research results

User Behavior During Tasks:
  • Shared thoughts on actionable tasks and reasons behind them.
  • Utilized top-performed categories for investment decisions.
  • Identified categories to discontinue based on performance.
Key User Requests:
  • Desired view of category and top-performing product.
  • Mentioned "drill-down" as a common phrase.
  • Emphasized the need to zoom in on a product and zoom out to a category for better understanding.
Solution

  • Let suppliers get more insights about their products by implementing an expandable table with a "drill-down" opportunity so they can evaluate the product performance on one page.
Outcome from user validation sessions
  • After trade-offs with engineering team it was decided to implement a light version of the table that still enabled sorting by trend and revenue.
MVP of top categories. People are able to sort by the top and bottom performers.
Sellers and catalog managers aimed to evaluate products' performance from different angles: on a category and product levels. I asked suppliers to list the most actionable data on a product level by ranking the top 3 info about a product.
Product information
A collection of important information about the Item's performance in one click, uniting the capabilities of several products in one popover.

Previously, sellers had to start investigating the top and bottom-performing products by looking for them in their spreadsheets. After implementing the popover with product details, users finally got the actionable information they sought.

Analytics showed that "People used this popover like crazy."
What have I learned from this project?

  • It is a great idea to have a "Back to old version" banner with stuck to it survey.
  • Removing metrics and not giving a better or equal solution brings frustration and affects overall satisfaction.
  • People still ignore pop-ups :D
  • Users aim to see detailed or high-level information, but it depends on the role.
  • People don't scroll down if they don't expect to find something below a certain area. Luckily, Appcues perfectly works for showing the new data below.
